| Welcome to the newly designed site of professional cyclist Lauren Franges. For the 2008 cycling season Lauren will be racing for the US Natinonal Women's Cycling Team overseas. When She is back in United States she will be wearing the colors of Team Tibco, based out of the California Bay area. Hopefully with this site you will be able to keep up to date with Lauren's traveling and racing season. |
4/29/08- Another two races down, 1 more to go and finally the weather is turning around. I am back in Italy and have had the pleasure to enjoy a few nice days of sun. I think this is the first time I was able to ride back to back days in just shorts and a jersey. The racing has been good. Fleche was hard and I spent most of the day helping teammates, fortunately we didn't have the lovely weather that greeted the guys. After Fleche we were headed to Julich, Germany for some TT position testing. Very interesting stuff!! Maybe I will go faster in TT's now.
The last excitement before heading back was a race in Luxembourg. This was my first time to this small, beautiful country and the race was fantastic. We raced aggressively and I had some especially hard efforts. The last one lasted until 300 meters to go when the field came flying by. Oh well, I gave it a go...it was close. Next up Bern World Cup in Switzerland, then I am off back to Asheville. Mike flies into tomorrow, so I am looking forward to showing him our wonderful home we have created here. It will be his first time. It will be crazy to spend some time together. |

| 4/15/08- Well I am back at the team house in Italy, and while I am glad to be back I am not so psyched with the weather. It is raining and cold again!!! Fortunately I am recovering from the weekend of hard racing and riding is not on the schedule today. I am ready for summer. Next up is some rest and recovery, followed by the Fleche World Cup back in the lovely country of Belgium. That leaves 3 more races in Europe before I head back to the US for Mt Hood. |

4/11/08- Good day on Thursday. Another flat day of racing, with 60% of the race being on cobbles. I finished 6th place today and was awarded as the top Under 26 in Drenthe 8-Dwingeloo. They even gave me a cake on the podium :) We race the Drenthe World Cup here in Holland on Saturday, more cobbles fast racing. Wish me luck. Here are some links to some pictures:

4/10/08- So it has been awhile. Things have been good. I have been in Europe since the 20th of March racing my bike. Some of that time has been spent at the team house in Italy, the rest of the time has been spent on the road. The legs are coming around, but the results are not following. I guess that is how it goes with the spring racing. I have also been busy with school. I officially have 4 more weeks left of class, then I will have my bachelors degree. It has been a long time coming and I am counting down the days for sure.
Last weekend we raced the infamous Ronde van Vlandereen, affectionately known as Flanders. This year went better than last, as I made it to the finish line with no major mishaps. It is an interesting race for sure, and the fans are amazing. Next up some fast Holland racing. I will let you know how it goes. |

2/25/08- Or in North America it is the 24th of February. Well the road season has officially begun. I am currently sitting on a plane to New Zealand getting ready to start of 5 day stage race in Wellington. I am looking forward to the trip for many reasons, first of which it should be an awesome race, I have never been to New Zealand, it will be warm and hopefully not too windy, and it another race to gain fitness for the rest of the year.
We, being the National Team just finished racing in Geelong, Australia. It was a good start and I even managed to mix it up in a few sprints which was a first in a long time for me. As usual the weather wasn't as nice as I was hoping for, but it was definitely better than the weather the men were facing in California (we also didn't have the illness that spread through their peleton). We did manage to get a few tan lines during the week we were there, so at least we can prove we were in a warmer climate.
One big highlight of the trip...seeing wild Kangaroos. Our awesome Swanny hunted down a special location where they all congregate and surprised us with a special visit. Believe it or not they are fans of golf courses, I guess because the grass is so green. So we pull up to this golf course and their are kangaroos everywhere just feeding off the grass while golfers are moving around them. There was a specific warning saying the golf club was not responsible for us if we are attacked, and we couldn't get anyone brave enough to get to close to them. We did get a few pictures which are posted below.
On a final note congratulations to an ex teammate, Emma and a fellow North American, Kathryn for a very impressive ride in the World Cup. You guys were truly stellar. Check back hopefully I will have some updates on New Zealand. |

1/31/08- Ups and downs...that is what my week has consisted of. It started with the announcement of the US Olympic Long Team, which I was named to for the track. It came as a surprise since my focus for the last few years has been the road, but the track being where I started and the training I have done with the National team has brought me back. I have enjoyed the camps for the team pursuit and I am constantly reminded that I get my race tactics from the track, so I do have a lot to owe to the the track. I am looking forward to the season and seeing where the path takes me. I am taking every opportunity I can and trying to open as many doors as I can.
Shortly after that good news was announced, Callie Rose was born and it has been great hanging out with Jenn and Joe and watching them become parents. I know they were scared but they are doing a great job and are lucky to have a beautiful girl who is going to be a hell raiser when she gets older.
The next morning I woke up to a phone call from my dad, asking if I had heard from my mom. Right away my heart sank as he informed me my brother broke his neck while skiing and was being transported to a hospital in Fort Collins to be assessed. After two days of being in the hospital and a bunch of x-rays he was going to be ok and was discharged to go back to Steamboat yesterday. He will be wearing a neck brace for at least the next 8 weeks, but he was lucky. Thank you to everyone who has sent emails and their well wishes. It was very much appreciated and helped keep Chris is good spirits. He is a fighter and will be back to his outgoing self shortly.
After all the emotional on goings this week, I think I was physically and mentally exhausted and it showed the other day in my training. I needed some good sleep which I got last night, and I had a great ride today. I am ready for everything to even out and go back to my nice steady state. I start racing in three weeks... |
| |
| 1/27/08- Welcome Callie Rose to the world, thanks to the wonderful assistance of Dr. Bob Wright (who I might add is a great training partner). My day today was wake up to find out my good friends Jenn and Joe were about to become parents. So I quickly ate breakfast and hopped on the bike for my 3 hour ride. I wanted to be there when the little monster entered the world. Throughout my ride Mike was caliing me with updates. I got to the hospital around 3pm and Callie was welcomed into the world at 4:08pm. Unfortunately for the rest of the world she looks exactly like Joe, but fortunately for Joe there is no denying she belongs to him. Mama and baby are doing wonderfully, and Callie seems to be very calm and collected. I didn't hear one cry out of her the entire time we were there. Hopefully she stays that way. Check out the link for some pics...Callie Rose |

| 1/22/08- Talk about leg openers...Well I just finished my first weekend of racing. I know some of you might be saying it is only January, what are you doing racing already. Well I had the opportunity to compete in the LA track World Cup, racing all three days, the points race, scratch race, and the team pursuit. I completed my first 3 day- 6 stage race on a high note. This World cup was the first event where the US entered a Women's Team Pursuit team, and with the training that we had going into the WC the pressure was on for sure. After racing and spending pretty much all day Friday and Saturday within the confines of the track I was not sure how my legs were going to feel for the pain and suffering I was about to go through. Remember when we had the Team Time Trial at Altoona, I still have vivid memories of the posed looked that Kristin Armstrong gets when ever she is in the aero position. It does not matter whether the bike has brakes or not. Considering she was telling me two weeks before the event the laps times we needed to do....I was scared. Fortunately for me the points and scratch race went well, and the qualifiers were great so I knew I had some pretty decent form going into the Team Pursuit. Qualifying was in the morning and we were the third team off. We started off great and faded a little towards the end, qualifying 4th with a 3:35. It was good enough to move on to the finals and ride for the bronze medal. So after a quick lunch and trying to come down from the first effort we were back at the track for the afternoon and our final ride. We were riding against the German National team, and we knew we had to step up our game to make it to the podium. Well step up we did. I guess we were pretty even throughout the entire 3km with the Germans and it was until the last lap where we pulled ahead to come home with the bronze, riding a time of 3:31. We took off 4 seconds from qualifying. The Team Pursuit is an interesting event because practice makes perfect. The more times you can do it the better off you will be. It was a great weekend, and my first World Cup medal. Thanks to Kristin Armstrong and Christen King for your hard efforts and making the team pursuit so much fun!! I will try and get some pictures up soon, if I can find any. For now a picture of my track bike with my secret weapon will have to do. |

1/11/08- Welcome to the new year. I know it has been a while since I have visited my site, but I have had good reason. Partly a lot has been going on, but also for Christmas Mike decided to surprise me for Christmas and he bought me a new Mac Book. So it has been a process getting use to it and setting it all up with all my information. It has been a lot of fun and I have to say that I love it, and it was a great surprise. On top of that I have been out to LA twice for track camps (the second I am currently at right now), the holidays were smashed in there somewhere, and we are finishing up all the work on the house. I am already looking to the fall and not having any major projects on our plates. I won't know what to do with all the time I will have on my hands. I also received some really great news the other day from my Academic Advisor telling me that I only have 4 classes left before I graduate. Since I am taking 2 of those 4 right now I really don't have much longer to go. It will be a relief when that is taken off my plate as well.
Training has been going well, and I have been suckered into racing already. Next week I will have my first race of the 2008 season, and it will be on the track. I will be competing in the Scratch Race, Points Race, and the Team Pursuit. We have been doing a lot of work with the National Team for the team pursuit and this will be the first time the US will have a team in competition so there is some pressure to perform. Training has been going well and we have gotten in some really good sessions so check back for the results.
Below are some before and after pictures of our house, it has turned out to be a little gem and Mike and I are happy with the results. |

| 12/5/07- Wow my life has become consumed with training, school and non stop house projects. It has been great we have been getting a lot done and are coming close to seeing the end of the projects. After next week the entire outside will be totally transformed to the point where it will take me a few days to recognize it as my own house. I am really looking forward to it all being done. Now that Christmas is right around the corner I have been busy getting ready which is occupying any spare moments I might have during my days. I am looking forward to the holidays because I know I will be one step closer to being done with school, I will have 3 weeks of no classes and hopefully some down time in Asheville where I can enjoy being home. Next week I head to LA for a track camp and getting some intensity in the legs. I am looking forward to it a little pain and suffering never hurt anyone. Check back in a week or so and hopefully I will get some before and after pictures of the house posted. |
11/5/07- This has been a month of weddings and parties. This past weekend Mike and I made the trip to Boise, Idaho for Kristin Armstrong's wedding. It was a beautiful day and she looked amazing in her white gown. This had been my first time to Boise, and though it was a little colder than Asheville is right now we had a great time. To make things even more enjoyable a few of my Lipton teammates also made the trip and it was great catching up with all of them. The wedding was Saturday and somehow Kristin and Lara talked me into getting up at 7am for a 7:45 run. It was cold, under 32 degrees!!! It was a good run, even though I had only had two runs previous. After that it was back to the house, shower, and head to Big City for the famous muffins that Kristin is always talking about. We met up with the gang and proceeded to city there for another 3 hours. After breakfast settled and all the wonderful conversation we decided to move on to Zen Bento another restaurant where we had lunch and enjoyed another 2 hours of conversation. By this time it was coming close to 3pm and the wedding started at 6. So we headed back to the house showered up and got gorgeous for the big night. We then met up at Laura Downey's house for some pre-wedding cocktails and headed to the Boise Train Depot. It was a beautiful setting and the whole wedding party looked stunning. The reception was inside the Train Depot and we enjoyed more conversation and the wonderful cake. After the reception is was time to move the party to a downtown bar called Opa. We had a great night of dancing and letting loose. Kristin and Joe came and joined us after wrapping things up at the depot, and we got Joe to show us his moves a little. It was a great weekend with friends.
Now we are headed back to Asheville today, and the winter training starts tomorrow. Time to get back to business. |

10/11/07- So a lot has been going on since my last update. Since I last left off, I went to Stuttgart for the Road World Championships. It was cold, but we lucked out with no rain. Although the results did not show it we had a good race as a team, and I was really happy with how my own personal performance was. It is hard when as a country we have so many strong and capable women. We went into Worlds with high expectations and in the Time Trial our girls came home with 2nd, 4th and 5th. I know the girls expected and wished for better, but in my book that is an awesome performance and they worked really hard for it. Alison had a great debut at her first World and showed that in a few years she will be right up there with the rest of them. Nothing like getting your first time jitters out of the way.
After Worlds was over, I was on the first plane back to Asheville and my next three days were consumed with haircuts, manicures, facials, and pedicures as well as a few last minute shopping trips for some items that I needed for Jamaica. After all the running around and packing we were off to Charlotte to catch our plane. I was nervous and excited to see the resort and how everything was going to be laid out. Before we left I had tried getting some information on the ceremony and the way things worked, but the attitude of Jamaica is "No Problem Mon", so that is how we started the vacation. We realized that the resorts has weddings all the time, so I was confident they knew what they were doing.
When we arrived at the resort we took a walk around and tried to become familiar with where everything was located and how things worked. The resort was beautiful, and I knew right away we had picked a great location. All the staff was so friendly and accommodating, and everything we need was right there. You really never needed to leave the resort. When the wedding day came I was nervous for sure, but the staff at the salon did a great job with my hair and makeup, and our wedding coordinator Nadia made sure everything was looking perfect. It was a perfect day, perfect vacation, and I wouldn't have changed anything. Couples San Souci is worth every penny and Mike and I are already trying to figure out when we can go back. Thank you to all the staff who made it such a memorable week.
Check out this link for our photo album from the trip and our wedding day. Our photos from Jamaica

9/22/07- We are done racing Holland, which Kristin once again showed that she is on great from in her time trial and she won the overall GC. After Holland some of the girls headed to Ardeche France and showed once again that the US is a strong force here in Europe. The girls took 2 stage wins, a 2nd place, a 4th place, a 3rd in overall GC, and the sprinters jersey. Nice work. Up next for me was my mom's vacation which was no doubt entertaining. She managed to find her way from Pisa airport to her hotel in San Marcaro in Piano, which was a quaint quiet bed and breakfast. We spent an afternoon in Pisa doing the tourist thing, another day we took the train to Florence and did the tourist thing, another day we walked around Lucca doing the tourist thing, and then it was time for me to do the racing thing at the Giro Della Toscana. In the process of all that I have also been trying to organize everything for my wedding that is in two weeks. I don't know what we were thinking to plan it so close to my arrival back in the States. Especially since I found out last week that I made the Worlds Team and now instead of having 9 days at home before we leave I have 3. No stress, no stress!!! In all honestly I am really looking forward to it, Mike and I are in a really good place right now and I am looking forward to the rest of our lives together. After all it is about time, I mean we have been together for almost eight years and we have been engaged for 3(??).
After Toscana I have a few more days here in Italy before we head to Germany, which I hear the weather will not be so lovely. I am not ready for WINTER....in all honestly I am never ready for WINTER. I guess that is why when I go on vacation I go to the warm, sunny destinations. Sorry Chris, no skiing in the near future for me. Just the beach and fun in the sun!! |
| 9/5/07- Sorry no pictures today. We have been in Holland racing the Holland Ladies Tour and I am sad to say that it has been very cold. Fortunately not much rain but it is always lurking in the area when we start. I am not ready for the cold weather especially when I know that both in Lucca and at home it has been nice and warm. I know I come for PA where I grew up in the snow and spending just about every moment possible at the ski hill just down the street, but since I became a cyclist and moved to NC I have officially become a wimp for the cold weather. We have 3 more days left here in Holland, and the racing is just like I remembered it, fast, some wind, lots of road furniture, and some good motor pacing, This year the race has been changed a little and we started with the hard hilly day first and the last day is a double day that ends with a 20km time trial just to mix things up a little. The racing has been good though and I am still seeing my fitness and I am glad that I feel much better than I did when I was over here in the Spring for the few races that I did. In a few days I will be in Lucca enjoying the warmth and some relaxation. My mom comes over next week as well so I will be doing some site seeing with her and checking out more of the area. I am looking forward to it. |
| 8/29/07- Below are a few more pictures from my last few days in Lucca. Can I just say the riding has been amazing. There are so many little roads and so many different places to go. The other day we ventured into Lucca and walked around inside the city walls. It is such a cool city. So much to look at and just wander around. The best part is you can't really get lost because it is surrounded by these massive walls so eventually you will come out to the circle and you can walk around the top of the wall to get back to where you left the car. Tomorrow I head to France for the Plouay World Cup. I am looking forward to it since it is the same course that was used when I raced my first Junior World Championships quite a few years ago. It will bring back some memories, and I am hoping that a house that I absolutely fell in love with is still in tact. It was right off the course and I had taken pictures of it when I was there so many years ago, but that was before the digital camera age so my hard copy of the picture got lost so all I have now is my memory of it. Rest assure if it is still there I will be taking a digital copy of it this time. After France it is off to Holland to race the Holland Ladies Tour. This will be my third year racing this race and I have to say that this year I am looking forward to it. It is the type of race that really grows on you, some people might not agree with me. Thankfully there is not a team time trial this year so I will not have to face the wrath of Kristin and her pre worlds form. Check back for updates on the races. It is about to start getting busy. On another note Mike and I have set our wedding date and location. Jamaica here we come. I am really looking forward to it. It will be a great way for us to end our season and just enjoying being with each other. |

8/25/07- So I am back in Lucca after the race in Germany. It was a 3 day stage race in the Albstadt region of Germany. It was pretty short but really intense. The first day was a 4km prologue, followed by a 100km road race with hills (which was essentially 3 km up, 4 km false flat, and 3 km downhill for each lap), and the last day was a european crit which was a 2.6 km circuit for a total of 35 laps or 92 kms. We had decided as a team we wanted a break so after a flurry of attacks I took my opportunity on a little riser and just went with everything that I had. I created a separation with 5 riders and 3 of us worked solidly for a few laps. Unfortunately we were only 8 laps into the race so there was still a long way to go to crossing the line. At about 20 laps to go two more women bridged across and brought some much needed horsepower to the break. We did it, made it all the way to the line with 22 seconds to spare. It was touch and go for a while but we had a well oiled machine. I was feeling the effort from being off for so long and sprinted to a fourth place, not a bad way to start the last part of my season here in Europe since I was also 9th in the prologue just a few days earlier.
After Germany we drove to Lucca and today we had our own personal tour guides to take us into Pisa, so today was the first time I saw the tower up close and not from the car. It was so crowded with all the tourists, but then again I guess today was Saturday. We stopped at a lovely cafe with great pastries and from what I hear amazing cappuccinos. The drive through Switzerland was so pretty and green, it was just so captivating. The last picture was taken from a restaurant in Switzerland where we stopped and had breakfast after many unsuccessful attempts before. |

| 8/18/07- I have made it to Italy, more specifically Lucca, where I will be spending the next few days before I head to Germany for my first stage race of the last part of my season. I arrived into Pisa yesterday absolutely exhausted, but did not want to take a nap so that I could get on European time. So we arrived at the house and I unpacked my bikes, then I took the town bike down the hill to the grocery store to get a few items for my stay. When I came back and had a little snack I couldn't help it and laid down for a 45 minute nap. Around 1:30 Italy time I chamoied up and met Preben for a ride around town. It was great to have a tour guide because I surely would have gotten lost, but isn't that the adventure about riding in Europe. You never have a great ride unless you get lost at least once during it. The countryside here is absolutely amazing and I promise over the next few days I will be taking my camera out and posting pictures. Preben took me into Lucca, the walled city and showed me the shopping street, I guess he figured me for a shopper. How did he guess? Then we got on the bike path on top of the wall that takes you all the way around the city, 4km in total. It was a great way of being there without being in there. After we got back to the house I realized again how tired I was. So I made myself some pasta and laid down to read. By 6:30 Italy time I was out. It was a great nights sleep though, one my body surely needed. Check back in a few days and I will have some pics up for you to check out. |
| 8/8/07- Not much really to report other than the fact that I have spent alot of time on my couch in the last two weeks. I am still training hard which is accounting for most of my couch time, the rest of it is due to my recovering from the racing. I raced in Charlotte and Winston- Salem this weekend and it was so nice to have such a big race so close to home. Once again we were welcomed by the Ward's to their Southern hospitality and they made sure the Health Net boys didn't go back to their hotel rooms hungry. Karl and Rory especially loved Teresa's wonderful brownies, which we are convinced gave Frank the win on Saturday night. For the TEAm it was a good weekend, I raced hard and spent at least half of Saturday nights crit off the front and racked up quite a few good primes. I was pretty tired from my efforts by the time the sprint came around but hung on for 12th. On Sunday man can you say boring...sorry it was seriously 100 degrees outside with no shade and after the excitement of Saturday it was hard to get amped up. I spent the first half of the crit trying to find my legs because they seemed to not know what was going on, the second half was trying to get and stay at the front, follow a few attacks and then try and stay in position for the finish. I was cooked, and Monday confirmed that since I proceeded to sleep until 11:30 am and then spend most of the day on the couch!! I know how hard is it being a bike racer, well sometimes it can be really hard!! I have some down time right now before I head to Europe to finish out the rest of the 2007 season with the National team. Next race up is Albstadt in Germany. A nice and short 3 day stage race. It will be my first time racing in Germany so I am a little excited to check it out, but first I get to spend a few days in Lucca at the team house. I am really looking forward to going back since my last trip was cut so short. I will report more later. |

8/2/07- Ok so I have been really tired after Altoona was over. We had a great week of racing and the TEAm was awesome. We walked away with 3 stage wins, the team GC, 3 in the top five of the overall GC and the Queen of the Mountains win. So it was a very successful week. I finally conquered the Martinsburg stage that I have always disliked and I won the stage. I still disliked the stage since we got poured on about 3/4 of the way through the stage, fortunately I was already off the front in a group of 12 so it made it a little easier to maneuver through our group. When we came into town for the finish the corners were still pretty wet so I was cautious and waited until the last corner to start my sprint. The girls in the break did a great job and fought hard all the way to the line. We ended up coming in 1 min 27 seconds ahead of Kori and Kristin who led the group in for 13th.
So now I am home and we have the Charlotte Criterium coming up on Saturday. It is nice to have a race so close to home and not have to deal with the travel. Especially some of the travel that the Boulder people had to deal with after Altoona was over. They all thought they were going to be getting home Sunday night after the crit, to find out that their flights were cancelled and they couldn't get out on another flight until Monday afternoon. They all eventually made it home, but they were not happy campers with the airlines.
I have some pics below from Altoona and hopefully I will be getting more. I know the picture of me crossing the line I should have two hands up...there is another picture somewhere and I do have two hands up. But can't you see the joy on my face and how enjoyable that stage mush have been!! |

| 7/26/07- Wow it is Altoona time already. We have had a few days of racing already, and it has been a pretty tactical race so far. It has been great, this year the team is staying with Bob and Bev, and family I met four years ago and have been staying with ever since. I always look forward to coming back and seeing them, they make the race so enjoyable. On another note Mike has been our director here and he is instilling in us the way of the men. It has been good for Kristin because she has had to reign it in but there have been a few times where we let go of the leash a little. Kori is in yellow right now after a great play of tactics in the first long stage, and she brought home the stage win with that yellow. The best stage so far has been the team trial that we had the first day. It is always hard when you are doing a time trial behind the current world time trial champion, but it is also an amazing opportunity to be able to sit behind her while she does her thing. We did not have the result we were hoping for. We came in 8 seconds behind Webcor, but considering the course it could have been much worse. We don't get many opportunities to practice the Team Time Trials or race them for that matter, but it certainly was a nice change to spice things up a little. Check back soon for more Altoona updates. |
7/20/07- Nationals is over and I have been home for almost a week now. The road race went well for me, but did not turn out as hoped for the team. Oh well such is bike racing, you can't control everything. It really was not that exciting of a race since the course was so hard and so much climbing. Anyway it has been nice to be home, watching the tour, and getting in some good riding on my familiar roads. For the second time this year I was home to do the group ride, it is always fun to throw down on the river and push yourself although I was feeling the efforts from the road race the day before not to mention that I arrived home at 2 am Tuesday morning after a very delayed day of travel in the airports. Up next is Tour De Toona for TEAm Lipton. Mike will be directing us and we are all looking forward to a hard week of racing under his guidance. The first stage is a team time trial this year, and while in years past Mike has always pushed for this I am not so sure what to think about it for this year. Competing in a time trial with the current World Champion is not an easy task. I have done some TTT with Kristin and lets just say that the memories are very painful. I will let you know how it goes.
On another note we have been doing a lot of work around the house. Ok so maybe we haven't actually done the work but our handyman Leonard has. He busted his butt the week we were gone and we have already been getting comments on the fact that it looks like a completely different house. I am excited to get to the finishing touches, like new siding and roof and planting some trees and flowers. The biggest job of the week was cutting and framing in 2 garage doors. It was definitely not an easy task or a clean one. The garage right now has a layer of cinder block over everything. Oh well just gives me things to clean. |
| 7/15/07- As mentioned before it is that time of the year for US Nationals. I had the time trial on Friday the 13th...I know it could have been a very unlucky day. Fortunately for me I did not really pay attention to the date. As a bike racer you never really have a clue as to what the actual date is and sometimes you really don't even have a clue as to what the day is either. So I raced hard. I was seeded in a not so lucky spot though. Right in front of all the top contenders so I was a good rabbit for them to chase. Just as I was rolling to the line the drops of rain started to fall from the sky. During the event I tried not to focus on the wind that was blowing me across the road into the other lanes of cones that lined the freeway we were racing on. Instead I focused on my cadence and position on the bike. All in all after it was over I was a little disappointed with my ride being that I was 7 seconds out of 7th, I was 10th. I do have to remember that I have not put a lot of emphasis into my time trailing this year, and that I have gotten stronger general and most likely in years past I never would have pulled off that result. There is still so much more for me to work on, and it has been great having TT specialist in your ear giving you pointers. I mean Kristin is a World Champion for a reason. Up next is the road race, but until then we will come to the lodge use the internet and then go back to our condos and wish we were watching the Tour. |
7/14/07- So I made it to Seven Springs and we have had some great adventures so far. The first of course being the run to the grocery store. At one point Benny called us to find out where we were and how much groceries we were getting because we were gone for so long. Of course we were just lost and hadn't even made it to the grocery store when I answered the call. We successfully cracked Kori and she was ready to give up and go back home. We eventually found our way and loaded up on all the necessities of a bike racer, lots of cereal including Bumpers (natural peanut butter cereal). The next day our plan was to check out the TT course, when we come to find out that there is no pre-riding. So drove to check it out, and after clarifying with some Masters that have already raced it we got the scoop. The course was on a 4 lane highway, but we were only using the right 2 lanes and it was a 6km section of road that we went out and back on for two loops totaling 24kms. Once we understood all the cones that were used to mark your lane and how the turnarounds were going to work it made a little more sense. It was going to be an eventful time trial that was for sure. The rest of the week entailed rest and relaxation in our dark holes of the condos that we are staying in. I will update later on how the time trial went, and the road race is still to come. |
7/10/07- I am back to racing after my broken hand, and it has been a whirlwind few weeks since I started back. I started my travels with the Montreal World Cup and Tour, followed by Liberty Classic (one of my favorites), then Nature Valley, a Team Pursuit Camp in Colorado Springs, and now I am off to Seven Springs Pennsylvania for US Road Nationals. It has been a slow recovery process and I have been taking it one day at a time. Everyday my legs feel a little better, and my head is reminding me why I like racing so much. It has been fun racing with the TEAm, and as much as I hate to say it I enjoyed the track and the training that went along with it. Between all these crazy trips I did have a few days at home where Mike and I enjoyed some rest and relaxation as well as a lot of the fine restaurants that Asheville has to offer. I have to say I love Asheville and I am so happy everything the city has to offer. It was great to be able to go out and enjoy the mountains, even while dragging Mike along with me. He has gotten a bug to start riding again. I can't wait for the winter to start torturing him with some great rides. As I am redoing my site I will be adding pictures, so check back soon. Wish me luck at Nationals. |
